Lessons learned from the collapse of bear stearns Essay
Lessons learned from the collapse of bear stearns - Essay Example All the major cause will be expansively presented in this paper. The valuable lessons learnt from the crisis will also be thrown light upon in this paper. Bear Stearns, AIG, Lehmann Brothers, Northern Rock, Goldman Sachs are some elite names that suffered the most because of the economic crisis also known as recession. Lehmann brothers filed for bankruptcy while AIG and a few other elites just hung in there with the skin of their teeth. This economic crisis is still having repercussions on countries like Greece and Spain; the whole of Euro Zone is facing a financial turmoil. There are a few other countries that have been not so severely affected by the same. The crisis triggered off because of unchecked debt, banks kept issuing loans to people who invested heavily in buying assets, several things were taken for granted but when proved otherwise there was hardly a place in the world to hide. Overvaluation in real estate is perhaps the biggest cause of the current economic crisis, it i s better known as the subprime crisis in the US. The likes of Lehmann Brothers and other financial services went bust because they kept issuing credit to the people who thought the property price would increase and they would be easily able to pay off the debt that they are borrowing. It did not turn out that way and there was a short of equity, this is exactly why the financial institutions went bankrupt. The overvaluation is the biggest factor that caused the current economic crisis. Factors like bad income tax practices have added insult to injury, bad mortgage lending also contributed heavily to this current economic crisis. ââ¬Å"The way to address the root cause is to let house prices drop to where an average house is within the means of an average household.à (Or, alternatively, boost the income of the average household to the point that they can afford an average house.à But that's very hard.à Letting houses prices go on falling, although painful for everyone who o wns a house or who has lent money to someone who owns a house, is very easy.)â⬠(Root Cause of the Financial Crisis) Role of Monetary Policy Some of the main plausible reasons that caused the recent financial crisis have been identified in the above sections. According to Brunnermeie (2009), cheap mortgage financing to sub-standard borrowers fuelled the boom in the U.S. housing market. Three factors were primarily responsible for the fall of the housing market in the U.S. (which in essence, constituted a very small segment of the financial market in the country) transforming into a global contagion. First, the ââ¬Å"originate and distributeâ⬠banking model, together with the high rate of securitization, led to declining lending standards and made it impossible to re-price the complex structured products. This significantly eroded the confidence level of banks, thereby disrupting the inter-bank markets and credit flow. Second, banks relied heavily on short-term funding sou rces, hence raising the risk of funding. Finally, the ever-growing integration of global financial systems and the increasing interest towards structured financial instruments quickly transmitted the crisis to all the major regions of the world. Gourinchas (2010) focused on the role of monetary policy in the recent financial contagion as well as the role played by exogenous influences, particularly the rising external deficits referred to as ââ¬ËGlobal Imbalancesââ¬â¢. According to Gourinchas, both explanations are not satisfactory as the sole

Justification of Humanities Essay Example for Free
Justification of Humanities Essay The humanities have been studied since ancient Grecian times as an academic discipline, examining human condition and including the arts, literature, philosophy, history and some social sciences. In 2008, nationally recognized and respected literary theorist Stanley Fish wrote a New York Times article in response to a New York State Commission on Higher Education report in which people posted complaints that the humanities are always the last to be financially funded. Fish sums up his argument with an insulting conclusive statement: ââ¬Å"To the question ââ¬Ëof what use are humanities? ââ¬â¢, the only honest answer is none whatsoeverâ⬠. He backs up this claim by pointing out the lack of tangible evidence that is produced by humanities compared to science and other fields. I assert that Fish underestimates the power of the intangible benefits that the humanities have to offer. His overall argument against the value of humanities presents a point-of-view that is extreme, reductive, and insulting to anyone associated with the humanities and the study of them. An education involving the study of humanities enables readers with skills that are applicable in understanding and comprehending contemporary media and literature. Literature, for that matter, effects people morally and possibly behaviorally and that effect, positive or negative, is ââ¬Ëof useââ¬â¢. Narrative literature and historical texts also allow readers to build a bridge and connect with the past and its people. The media has become an inevitable part of our society today and, unfortunately, media manipulation has as well. Public relations companies and the government have hidden agendas that the journalists blindly incorporate into their stories and columns. People are paid to make the American public perceive pictures and articles in a deceitful, false way in order to sell a war or downplay a disaster. In 1996 John Rendon, the founder of The Rendon Group, a public relations firm, admitted to U. S. Air Force cadets that the Gulf War in Iraq had been a big project for his company. He even talked about generating deceiving photographs! Looking back in history through other conflicts (i. e. , Vietnam, Iraq), or political issues or even stories of famous individuals, we can observe many situations similar to what Rendon explained that supports a recurring complaint in our culture, whether provable or not, that the press will print stories without evidence if they make more money in the process. Specifically, the media coverage after the 911 attacks were constant and focused on Osama bin Laden as the mastermind behind the attacks and on Iraq having ââ¬Ëweapons of mass destructionââ¬â¢ as they were told by authorities. Pro-war sources were disproportionately focused on over anti-war sources which helped build misguided public support for our war on terrorism and on Iraq. But we now know WMDs were not in existence there, but this shows the power of media stories, no matter whether based on fact, and its ability to influence society and the power it can take away from us by eliminating fully-informed decision-making. By being exposed to manipulating and deceiving narrators such as Lolitaââ¬â¢s Humbert Humbert and Holden Caulfield in The Catcher In the Rye, students gain experience in detecting this fraudulence or bias. Also, through involvement with this type of reading and writing, the ability to sense when they are being propagandized or manipulated. An education that includes humanities provides tools for people to consciously keep from falling for the bias and hidden slander that is involved, especially with politics. This awareness can cause better decision-making (voting especially) and affect a personââ¬â¢s opinion very greatly. Exposure to humanities can cause people to be less egocentric and can arm them with a point-of-view that will help them see through narrow-minded opinions and statements, like Fishââ¬â¢s, and develop their own sound, fact-based and well-rounded opinions. Fish also comments in his article, ââ¬Å"What do they [humanities] do? They donââ¬â¢t do anything, if by ââ¬Ëdoââ¬â¢ is meant bring about effects in the worldâ⬠. This claim is resting upon the questionable understanding that the ââ¬Ëdoââ¬â¢ is supposed to yield a tangible product, a constant misconception Fish seems to have. I am arguing that an effect on a person, positive or negative, implies that something was ââ¬Ëdoneââ¬â¢ to have caused that effect. Fish himself names many examples of literature affecting its readers; he just chooses to discard them and remain skeptical. Countless examples have affected millions of people. Rachel Carsonââ¬â¢s Silent Spring is commonly credited for the launch of the environmental awareness movement. The Bible itself is a form of literature, and I am sure that Stanley Fish cannot argue that The Bible has not affected the world! Dr. Seuss books affect children and adults all over the world with their simple yet effective messages through the creative rhyming. The Food and Drug Administration was founded as a latter result to Sinclairââ¬â¢s The Jungle, and I believe that this would be considered an example of ââ¬Ëdoingââ¬â¢ something, even according to Fish. Books, and all forms of art, can cause people to reflect on the plot, the characters, or the ethical questions being pondered in the story. We can contemplate character attributes we appreciate or reject and watch scenarios unfold in books that can be comparable to situations in our own lives. Fish believes ââ¬Å"it is not the business of the humanities to save usâ⬠, but I do believe an education in humanities can help us save us from the ââ¬Å"worst of ourselvesâ⬠by helping us become more well-rounded citizens with an understanding of the past so we can head effectively and productively into the future. I agree with Kronman who Fish quotes as saying ââ¬Å"a college was above all a place for the training of characterâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ . This completely supports an intelligent quote by Martin Luther King Jr. King said, ââ¬Å"Intelligence plus characterââ¬âthat is the true goal of education. â⬠Without any humanities incorporated in a personââ¬â¢s education, can this goal be fully achieved? The renowned Spanish-American essayist George Santayana said, ââ¬Å"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat itâ⬠, and I cannot agree more with this claim. It highlights the importance of an education in history, another branch of the humanities discipline. Having a connection and understanding with the past allows us to gain appreciation for the world today and learn from the mistakes made through history, so those mistakes are not repeated. For example, the very foundation of Americaââ¬â¢s government was created through utilizing documentations of various governments implemented through history! The founding fathers sifted through accounts of different governments and how successful they were and used them to form the Constitution. For example, they applied the system of checks and balances in order balance power among the braches and stray from the way that Britainââ¬â¢s monarchy was established. Books and the arts used to be manââ¬â¢s sole form of entertainment and it is amazing to read the thoughts and see the creations of a person from so long ago! Narrative literature, especially from the past, allows us to delve into the mindset of someone from a different time, and that is something that no history book can teach. The readings assigned in humanities classes expand studentsââ¬â¢ knowledge of life and ethics from a different time period and examines why this ethical mindset existed in the historical context. We reflect and compare the morals of those in the past to our own, making connections with the past yet also seeing the development of ethics and moral behavior through time. Teachings in humanities can be directly applied to the commercial culture that is present in our society today, especially with the deceitful and biased influences in the media. Literature has direct effects on us on an emotional, ethical and logical level and the connection that is made through books with the past is undoubtedly one of the most helpful insights of the past. Fishââ¬â¢s argument was immature and was based merely on tangible products, a close-minded viewpoint that overlooks the power of thought and the mind! My contrasting opinion defends the impalpable and in that sense, suggests humanities can contribute to improving a reader personally and potentially benefit the future of society greatly.

Should The Death Penalty Be Mandatory For Homicide?
Should The Death Penalty Be Mandatory For Homicide? Death penalty is considered to be a cruel and inhuman punishment for crimes mostly for the murder since 19th century. Death penalty is also called capital punishment which is the supreme punishment of murder or killing. Death penalty in Texas, in USA for homicide is shouldnt be mandatory because it is a brutal and inhuman punishment. Texas has the record for the number of executions. This death penalty issue is a controversial issue because some states and people think that the use of capital punishment should be mandatory for all murders otherwise the number of homicide or crimes will be increased dramatically and the criminal will get more chance to do more crimes like homicide. Besides this most of the nongovernmental institution like Amnesty International, United Nation does not want to let the death penalty mandatory for murders. According to Irene Khan, the secretary general of Amnesty International, The death penalty is the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment. Beh eadings, electrocutions, hangings, lethal injections, shootings and stoning have no place in the 21st century (Amnesty International USA, Death Penalty: 2,390 executions in 2008 worldwide, 72 per cent in China). States of Texas use electric chair, lethal injection, lethal gas, hanging, and firing squad to execute the guilty. Firstly, I believe that punishment like death penalty for homicide which is an in justification to human being and violation of human rights should not be mandatory. Secondly, the cost of death penalty for homicide is higher than the cost for the sentencing alternative of life imprisonment without possibility of parole. (The Death Penalty: Specific Issues). Thirdly, the danger of erroneous convictions and executions of the innocent people may increase because of the usage of false testimony, the willful suppression of evidence, and coerced a confession. Again, People have the right to live. Who gave the right to the state to take a decision of capital punishment against a person? (The Death Penalty V Human Rights: Why abolish the death penalty? September 2007). Firstly, death penalty for homicide is a violation of fundamental human rights. For homicide death penalty should not be compulsory because it offers society not further protection but further brutalization. The state can exercise no greater power over a person than that of deliberately depriving him or her of life. However, the state does has the right to punish a person by sentencing him or her to death? From the critics view the answer should be No. (The Death Penalty V Human Rights: Why abolish the death penalty? September 2007). Capital punishment denies the legal process of law. The approval of death penalty is contradictory to law where the human rights is being preserved. The imposement of death penalty differs because of the color of the people and the financial condition which is injustice and against human rights. In June 29, 1972, the US Supreme Court declared capital punishment as a cruel and unusual punishment which proves that death penalty is a violation of human righ ts and injustice to the people. (Death Row Facts: Texas Department of Criminal Justice). A person who is innocent but punished for the deeds which he or she did not is a clear violation of human rights. Secondly, death penalty for homicide in Texas should not be mandatory because of the knowing use of false testimony, the willful suppression of evidence, and coerced a confession which has, at times, resulted in the conviction and execution of innocent persons on capital punishment. Factors like police and prosecutorial misconduct, misinterpretation, inadequate legal representation, undeveloped technology also lead the judge to give a punishment like death penalty for homicide which shouldnt be done with the people who are innocent. In USA since 1973, because of the evidence of their wrongful convictions, over 130 people have been released from the death row. And in Texas the release of four men from the death row on grounds of innocence prove that death penalty for homicide is a wrong decision. (Regional summaries, Death Penalty and Innocence: Amnesty International USA). For example, Randall Dale Adams and Clarence Brandley was the victims of the misconduct of the judges and was rel eased from the death row after years of struggle to prove them innocent (C. Dieter, Richard: The Future of Death Penalty in the U.S.: A Texas Sized Crisis). Thirdly, the cost of death penalty for homicide is higher than the cost for the life imprisonment which is an alternative to death penalty. If it is mandatory for all murders the cost will increase more and more. In death penalty for homicide, large proportion of the money spent prior to and during the trial. There is a little cost in post-conviction of proceedings in death penalty. Even if the cost of post-conviction is being eliminated, the cost of the death penalty for homicide still would be more expensive than other alternative punishments. From the survey on Texas about the cost of the death penalty we can see that the cost of death penalty for homicide is estimated $2.3 million per case with having 300 people on the death row and the homicide rate in this state is one of the highest in the country. The expansion of death penalty shrinking the budget of the sates for police departments, drug treatment programs, education, and other government services that help prevent crime. I n Texas a homicide death penalty costs taxpayers accounting $2.3 million, about three times the cost of imprisoning someone in a cell at the highest level for 40 years. (Ellis, What Politician Dont Say About the High Cost of Death Penalty). In addition, Taxes spent approximately à £183.2 million dollar in just six years on the death penalty for homicide. As US Supreme Court ruled that the jury must be informed in advance if the defendant would be eligible for parole whenever a sentencing jury has the ability to impose death penalty (Capital Punishment, Death penalty data). The use of parole makes the capital punishment very costly. People who support the death penalty to be mandatory for homicide argue that death penalty deter capital crime. They refer that death is the surest way to bring it about the most total prevention from functioning in a normal way and irrevocable. People fear about being punished by sentencing to death before doing any homicide. Because of the death penalty for homicide criminals think before doing anything wrong. (Den Haag, The Death Penalty: A Debate). Again, there is no way to make a wrong decision for the judge which will cause the life of an innocent people. The judge consider everything such as the mode of incident, explanation from the witness and obviously the technology like DNA test, medical inspection of the body which makes the case easier for the authority to identify and sentenced to capital punishment of the guilty. Furthermore, Firstly, Death penalty doesnt deter crime because there are enough potential murderers to replace all those incapacitated. Crime rates are influenced by the other factors not because of the capital punishment. The threat of life in prison deters more than any other term of punishment like death penalty for homicide. Life in prison is unpleasant and horrible than the death penalty and painful to die by the passage of time. It makes the feelings of the prisoner to die than living in such a condition which create mental illness for them. By sentencing to prison make an example for the murderers from where they can realize the harsh punishment. However, criminal who are adamant to do murder cant be controlled or kept quiet whatever the punishment it is. As we can see from the research on Texas, the crime rate grew up by 24% and 46% of violent crime. (C. Dieter, Richard: The Future of Death Penalty in the U.S.: A Texas Sized Crisis). Secondly, the argument named the killing of innocent th at death penalty supporter shows for homicide is not true because there is a great chance of doing something wrong about justification. Human beings are not out of making wrong decision and the judges do too. Again the use of technology in identifying criminals is not available all over. The use of new technology like DNA and other medical instrument which are very expensive and states like developing and poor countries can not afford this type advance technology. In conclusion, we can say that death penalty for homicide is controversial issue all over the world. The use of death penalty may cause the life of innocent people as the use of false testimony, the willful suppression of evidence, and coerced a confession. The use of death penalty for homicide is a very costly one because of the trial which means the cost of pre-conviction proceedings. Death penalty is a violation of fundamental human rights. People have the right to live. A judge cannot decide whether a person should die or not. The creator has created us and will make the decision whether a person should die or not. The prison system should be more about rehabilitation than simply introducing capital punishment or removing the criminal from society. It costs a few dollars per day to have a parole officer check on a parolee than the huge cost of death penalty. And it could be an example for the murderers. I believe that we are human being and we are beyond mistake. Death penalty do esnt deter crime as it is a simple way than making the life imprisonment which makes the life of a criminal terrible in every step. However, we should give a chance to the criminal to correct as forgiving is great virtue. Proper steps should be taken to abolish capital punishment and make the world to be free from cruel and inhuman punishment.

Essay --
There is an old saying that claims that it is better to risk saving a guilty person than to condemn an innocent one. While many choose to follow unjust traditions, others choose to pursue the path of justice. In Harper Leeââ¬â¢s To Kill A Mockingbird, the mockingbird is a symbol of innocence that should never be killed; It is harmless and provides a song for the enjoyment of others. Furthermore, three characters from the novel are considered symbolic mockingbirds. Boo Radley, not convicted of any real charges, has fallen into a trap of rumors that have gone around the town. Tom Robinson is accused of raping a white woman with no substantial evidence proving him guilty. He is shot down while trying to escape prison. Lastly, Scout, the narrator of the book, is an innocent five-year-old girl. As the novel progresses, she starts to witness racial prejudice; which is something that no minor should come in contact with during her childhood. By exposing their innocent natures, we see how Boo, Tom Robinson and Scout are the mockingbirds in this novel. In reality, Boo has done nothing wrong. His confinement began when he, along with some other people, had played a prank and gotten into some trouble with the law. Later in his life, a rumor is spread that he had stabbed his father with scissors. Forced to stay in the house for his behavior, Boo becomes the center of gossip and rumors that spread throughout the town. He did not do did any of the things of which he was accused; instead, all he wanted to accomplish was to befriend Jem and Scout. He left them gifts in the oak tree. Scout complains to Jem, ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢ve been chewinââ¬â¢ it all afternoon and I ainââ¬â¢t dead yet, not even sickâ⬠(45). Jem is completely astonished when he discovers that Scout took the ... ... newspaper editor, despises negroes yet supports Tom Robinson: ââ¬Å"Mr. Underwood simply figured it was a sin to kill cripples, be they standing, sitting or escaping. He likened Tomââ¬â¢s death to the senseless slaughter of songbirds by hunters and childrenâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (323). Even though it is obvious that Mr. Underwood does not like negroes, he writes about the injustice done upon Tom Robinson. Similar to killing a mockingbird, Tom is killed for a crime he had never committed and harm that he had never brought. Scout is one of the most innocent people in this book. During the course of this book, she goes through events and experiences, that no child should ever witness at a young age. On one hand, her father Atticus, is trying to teach her to live moral life and make the right decisions. On the other hand however, she is open to influences of a town filled with racism and prejudice.

Infant mortality rates and importance of them
When studies measuring America ââ¬Ës wellness attention are released, many articles place heavy accent on infant mortality rates and its analysis. These studies are straight measured with a state ââ¬Ës health-care development, demoing betterments in surgical processs or a interruption in advanced engineering. About every state in the universe, including the U.S. and European states, takes careful consideration of its infant mortality rate when mensurating its ain wellness attention system or puting their informations on the universe phase for international comparings. Infant mortality rates, of import pieces of statistical information to a state, have prompted inquiries of whether a individual set of Numberss validly assesses a state ââ¬Ës overall health care quality or simply serves as an undependable step taken excessively critically. Infant mortality rates provide undependable statistical informations chiefly due to a deficiency of standardised steps in entering infant deceases across states, ensuing in misdirecting information. Assorted states throughout the universe define baby mortality otherwise, which Jonathan Cohn describes as ââ¬Å" rough steps â⬠( Hogberg ) . Some states consider any baby who ââ¬Å" breathes or shows any grounds of life â⬠feasible as referenced in the Demographic Yearbook [ 1 ] 2002, and others ââ¬Å" must be at least 30 centimetres long â⬠to be considered life as stated by Nicholas Eberstadt ( Hogberg ) . Because of alone measurings across states, Country A may hold its infant mortality rate elevated or lowered significantly in relation to Country B criterions. For illustration, Country A, with an infant mortality rate of 2.7, counts every mark of life as a unrecorded birth. State B, with an infant mortality rate of 5.8, counts merely babies weighing over 500 gms at birth, ensuing in a larger tallied figure of deceases. If Country A were to set to Country B ââ¬Ës criterions, it would most likely produce a higher mortality rate. Without a consistent system, both infant mortality rates and rankings are well skewed. Due to an unorganised system of infant decease enrollment, states including New Zealand and Australia are prone to losing informations, and some exclude ââ¬Å" babies who die shortly after birth â⬠from their informations wholly ( Hogberg, MacDorman, and Matthews ) . Underreporting consequences from these undependable patterns, unwittingly casting the image of a state with a higher quality health care. Some of the top grade European states could be every bit low as the United States, or the United States itself could lift to the upper tierce. Without a standardised system, the truth of universe health care rankings is peculiarly questionable. Erratic studies, eventful from mendacious variables, send messages that do non effica ciously mensurate a health care system. Infant mortality rates reflect socioeconomic factors of the state more than the quality of its health care straight. The rates normally reflect the ââ¬Å" obscureâ⬠¦ prevailing broad disparities among racial groups â⬠; statistics from the Department of Health and Services show the correlativity between infant mortality and ethnicity ( ââ¬Å" The U.S. Health â⬠) . As of 2008, African Americans have an infant mortality rate of 13.6 out of every thousand births ; Whites, 5.66 out of every thousand births ( Blue ) . The present racial disparity links to the disadvantages of minority groups such as changing life conditions, ineffectual fiscal assistance, and deficiency of proper antenatal instruction. Without proper antenatal instruction, female parents lack cognition in caring for their kids decently earlier, during, and after construct. Depending on the regional countries in which these minority groups settle, entree to health care may besides be limited, impacting the attention of babies. Financial issues in a state once more indicate a relationship to the infant mortality rate. Research from the University of Maine studies that ââ¬Å" Denmark and Germany have wellness systems which are really just in fiscal parts to the system, [ but ] other states such as the U.S. have really unjust systems of wellness funding â⬠( ââ¬Å" The U.S. Health â⬠) . Denmark and Germany, both extremely industrialised European states, item significantly lower infant mortality rates than the United States, which coincidently besides spends the most in health care. Fiscal factors do non play a important function in the health care system itself, but more on the authorities policies sing a state ââ¬Ës fiscal distribution. Most issues point towards a state ââ¬Ës socioeconomic issues instead than its health care related jobs upon measuring an overpoweringly big analysis on infant mortality rates. On the other manus, infant mortality rates can rede a state sing the way of its health care focal point. One of the more discussed grounds for the United States holding a higher mortality rate is that many doctors think the United States are concentrating more on handling issues, instead than forestalling them ( Park 48 ) . This observation serves as an of import index to the focal point of the United States ; the quality of the United States ââ¬Ë wellness attention may be earnestly undermined, and the betterment of the state ââ¬Ës health care is slowed by the clash of misdirected focal point. Because of the error doctors are doing by seeking to bring around a deceasing babe instead than forestalling the mortal state of affairs ab initio, American baby mortality rates are unreasonably in the lower tierce of industrialised state rankings. The United States, honored as the richest and most powerful state in the universe, faces embarrassment in an cryptically low ranking in an cou ntry in which it is expected to stand out. Relatively high baby mortality rates points the U.S. in a way to increase its attempts in a new visible radiation. Datas studies from the CIA reveal a correlativity between infant mortality rate and the figure of doctors per 1000 people, which show an norm of 337 physicians in European states with an infant mortality rate of less 4.5 and the United States with 256 physicians with an infant mortality rate of 6.26m ( The World Factbook ) . A lurid deficit of doctors in the United States should dismay Americans who need to switch their current wellness focal point to supplying more physicians. Mothers may non be having equal attention from accoucheurs or babies may be treated with sloppiness by baby doctors because a work deficit may non let a doctor to supply the focal point and personal attention to every patient. Infant mortality rates are of import indexs to direct the focal point of a state sing the betterment of its health care. Inadequa te systems of entering infant deceases greatly hamper the credibleness of publically reported informations used to rank the quality of a state ââ¬Ës health care. Another country where baby mortality plays a function in health care is finding the effectivity of a state ââ¬Ës medical engineerings and interventions. Alice Park in a wellness issue of TIME magazine studies that some adult females ââ¬Å" take advantage of generative engineerings [ that ] cause opportunities of multiple births, which in bend addition the likeliness of premature birth â⬠( Park 47 ) . Premature birth additions infant mortality to a unsafe extent, given the fact that premature babies will have undeveloped lungs and encephalons. Since premature births are increased, the information points towards unproductive medical engineerings, which threaten the province of a state ââ¬Ës overall health care quality. Premature births are besides caused by birthrate interventions taking to multiple births, ensuing in early cesarian subdivisions ( Stobbe ) . The impractical nature of these birthrate interventions basically represents an barbarian intervention system, which in bend affects the overall methods of intervention of the full health care construction. Infant mortality rates in the United States did non demo a considerable lessening until the development of inoculations against diseases aiming babies ( Park 42 ) . Unlike the old fortunes, this state of affairs proves that the success of ground-breaking engineering dramatically increased the quality of the state ââ¬Ës health care. Specified to the efficaciousness of a state ââ¬Ës medical engineerings and interventions, infant mortality rates provide intelligent grounds of the quality of a health care system. Infant mortality rates are normally used to measure a state ââ¬Ës overall health care position. I, nevertheless, do non believe that rankings of states ââ¬Ë infant mortality rates are valuable indexs. While the informations may supply some penetration into delivering methods, antenatal attention, and postpartum attention, most surveies clearly illustrate that causes of infant mortality are non entirely medically based. In fact, most causes of infant mortality are economically and socially based ; hence, infant mortality rankings have merely a modest cogency in verifying the makings of a state ââ¬Ës wellness attention. Upon analysing demographic informations, entree to wellness attention is conspicuously dependent on environmental factors, such as where one lives ( Meckel 281 ) . By comparing population maps to healthcare entree charts, it is evident that there is a way relationship between countries with higher population densenesss and higher health care entree. Cities with big populations show a big contrast in racial disparity versus infant mortality rates, in which African Americans and Native Americans have higher rates than White persons, but both Hispanics and Asians have lower infant mortality rates. The causes for the disparities are identical, which makes infant mortality rates a faulty agencies of analyzing health care. Some variables involved in cut downing infant mortality rates over the decennaries included a higher criterion of life, antenatal instruction, and teenage gestation instruction ( Meckel 281 ) . These factors show no relevance towards health care. The lessening in infant mortality in this instance was the effects of social reforms and non actions covering with the overall health care system. In my sentiment, the system of computation baby mortality rates confronts the most upsetting job: Measurements are incompatible. It is unlogical to compare uncustomary statistics and utilize it to knock a state ââ¬Ës quality of health c are. In order to efficaciously rank a state ââ¬Ës wellness attention quality, and finally its system, accent demands to be placed on more information pertaining as closely to the health care itself without outlying factors. Infant mortality rates appear with excessively much gravitation in every health care analysis study. Infant mortality rates serve as highly of import statistical information ; nevertheless, less weight could be placed on the rates itself sing the rankings of healthcare quality. Alternatively, infant mortality rates can be analyzed to better socioeconomic issues within society. Gnostics & Orthodox Christians essays
Gnostics & Orthodox Christians essays It is not permitted for a woman to speak in the church, nor is it permitted for her to teach, nor baptize, nor to offer the eucharist, nor to claim for herself a share in any masculine function-least of all, in priestly office (p.155). In the beginning of Christianity this was not the view towards women and even todays modern times many of these restrictions against women have been removed. Orthodox Christians placed many of these restrictions against women in the first century after the death of Christ. These restrictions were strongly rejected by the Gnostics who felt that women were equals to men. In this paper the differences between the orthodox Christians and the Gnostics will be examined. Such issues as views of sexuality, creation, the Trinity, the gender of God, and the role of women in church will be discussed. I hope to have provided a full understanding of all these issues and differences by the end of this paper. Many people think that the battle of the sexes is a new thing but this war has been raging since the time of Jesus with males being the predominant winners. When it comes too superior or not superior the orthodox will take men over women every time. The orthodox even thought that since men made up the body of the community that only men were allowed into heaven and the only way for women to get into heaven was to assimilate themselves to men (p.142). Gnostics felt that man and woman were created equally and that woman did not have to conform to enter the gates of heaven. When it come to the story of creation the orthodox believe in the story that is told today to describe creation. It is the story of God creating the world the world in seven days and creating woman from man.
